You can get a purple wand with an item level of 359 in World of Warcraft without raiding, doing arenas, rated battlegrounds or spending thousands of gold buying one in the Auction House. What is required is doing random heroic dungeons.
My frost mage is finally level 85 and since the new patch came out with these new Zandalari Dungeons, I wanted to check them out with my 85 mage. Unfortunately, my green wand was preventing me from getting a higher lvl gear score to qualify for these random dungeons. Everything else I wore were either blue or purple except for my wand. Here’s how I got my lvl 85 mage a purple wand:
1. Do heroic cataclysm dungeons and collect Valor Points (you will need a total of 750). Each random heroic cataclysm dungeon will give you 70 valor points. You can get up to 490 valor points per week from heroic cataclysm dungeons.
2. Buy Conquest Points with Valor Points. You can buy 250 Conquest Points for 250 Valor Points.
3. Once you have the 750 Conquest Points, use this to buy a Vicious Gladiator Wand. The wand is only 700 conquest points so you will have 50 conquest points left over.
This is for the solo artist. You can also collect Conquest Points by winning a daily random battleground or teaming up with a PVP group and doing rated battlegrounds. Or doing Arenas. But if you’re on your own and you merely do random dungeons or bgs, this is the best way to get a purple wand for your level 85 mage, warlock or priest. This method can be achieved in a couple of weeks using only the dungeon finder tool.
